GONCALO AMARAL DAY 2 October 2010

Today, 2 October 2010, four members of The Madeleine Foundation and three supporters took part in a day of action in support of former Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral, the man who made the McCanns suspects in the disappearance of their daughter Madeleine, and who wrote the book now banned in Portugal by the McCanns - ‘The Truth About A Lie’.

At 3pm, by prior arrangement, a 10-page letter setting out the case for a full public enquiry into all aspects of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was delivered by four Madeleine Foundation members and a supporter to 10 Downing Street. Our letter to Prime Minister David Cameron can be seen on our ‘News’ page.

Similar letters also setting out the case for a public enquiry were also delivered by hand to the Ministry of Justice at Petty France and the Home Office at Marsham Street.

Earlier in the day a 4-page letter setting out the treatment that Goncalo Amaral has faced in Portugal ever since he made the McCanns suspects was handed in to the Portuguese Ambassador. This is also available on our ‘News’ page. The letter calls for a public enquiry into all aspects of the three trials that Goncalo Amaral has faced since he was removed from the Madeleine McCann investigation on his birthday three years ago, 2 October 2007.

The previous day we sent an e-mail to Mr Amaral personally, sending him numerous good will messages and birthday greetings from his supporters in Britain.

We were also able to distribute many copies of our new leaflet on Goncalo Amaral, either by hand to members of the public, or through letter-boxes in the area.
